Be The Best Tree

a short documentary about what happens when kids are given the space to create, collaborate, and grow—on stage and beyond.

The film shows how kids grow when adults trust them to take risks, lead, and collaborate. In a time of disconnection and pressure, it’s a reminder that spaces rooted in creativity and care help young people find their voice—and carry it into the world.

Every summer, Performing Arts Camp (PAC) in a small town in Pennsylvania brings together children ages 5 to 17 to stage nine full productions in just four weeks. But this camp isn’t about becoming a star. It’s about learning to listen, take up space, work as a team, and express yourself with confidence.

Through a blend of vérité footage, archival material, and interviews, the film captures the joyful chaos and quiet transformations that unfold each summer.

Be the Best Tree is not just about one camp. It’s about the power of theater—and the urgency of protecting the spaces that help young people become who they are.

“For the past 36 years, Performing Arts Camp has created a space where young people grow, mature, and gain tools that stay with them for life. As camp director, it’s been a joy to witness how theater builds confidence, communication skills, and connection. This documentary pulls back the curtain to show how the performing arts can leave a lasting impact on children and teens.”
